November 1999 Newsletter
Hi folks,
First I must apologise for the absence of your newsletter last
month. I’m sure you were all most disappointed to be
denied such riveting reading !!! A combination of a busy
period at work and a house move are my two major excuses
(although I do have many Minor ones).
NEWS
Graham
At last months meeting we were informed of the sad news that Graham (our Rally man) had been involved in a serious car crash on the way to work and that he was in intensive care. A get well card was passed round to everybody. I’m happy to report that Graham has since been allowed home and is on the road to recovery. Welcome back Graham and we all wish you a speedy convalescence !!
Maurice
On the subject of hospitals, at last October meeting we were treated to a fine and funny account from Maurice of his time in the hands of the NHS. It was great to see you back Maurice and we all appreciated your amusing version of what must have been a very frightening experience. It appears that Mrs Maurice has hidden his beloved pipe and is refusing all his appeals for even the smallest smidgen of treacle tart. Sympathy all round Maurice !
We have had a spate of new members so welcome to Caroline, Ann and Graham Welcome all.
Christmas Meal
It was decided not to hold a Christmas meal for the club this year. The main grumble was the expense at an already expensive time. Maybe next year it will be worth collecting a few pounds from interested parties every month so that when Christmas comes around again, we will already have paid.
Club Raffle
Anybody willing to encourage members to part with a few pounds every month ? Sharon and Martin have come up with an idea (we all know that behind every great idea there is usually a woman but I’m sure you helped Martin) to re-instate and re-vamp the Club Raffle that was previously held monthly. Current thoughts are to sell raffle tickets (a mere £1.00 for a 5-strip of tickets) every month and to save up the money over a five or six month period in order to purchase bigger and better prizes. Suggestions for prizes have included National Club membership, vouchers for local Morris dealers, books etc. This is not fixed in stone so any suggestions would be welcome. It is envisaged running this for a trial period and seeing what the feedback is. Please let us know what you think. A weekly raffle is quite a commitment to keep going (to which Jill, who ran it for numerous years will no doubt readily agree) so maybe this is the perfect solution.
OUR WEB PAGE !!
John, our Club Web Page Designer was not able to attend last month due to work. He will be attending December’s meeting however and he has been making improvements to our club web site. I look it up on my computer now and again just to make sure he is keeping busy and it is looking great. There is still a lot he can put up there and members are slowly but surely coming forward with treasured photos of their beloved cars as well as stories behind their purchase and their renovation. Has anybody else looked at the web-page ? John would really appreciate some feedback as he wants it to be a web page that everybody is happy with. If you don’t have access to the Internet or have not used the Internet before then local libraries offer this facility - so, if you are getting bored with Christmas shopping then pop into a library or Internet Café and check it out !! The web page would be dull without contributions from the club members. So please, please put pen to paper and come forward with your stories and photographs. All photos will be looked after and returned after being scanned in. I will give you the web page address again:

NEXT YEAR’S PROGRAM
A date has been confirmed for our meeting next year on 6th March 2000. The Royal National Life Boat Institute will be attending our meeting. Any ideas for other talks for our meetings would be gratefully received by the committee. There are still a few gaps to be filled. Other dates in next years calendar include:

February 7th --------- A.G.M. (a good attendance for this
meeting is hoped for)

As our A.G.M. is coming up soon, it is a good time to start thinking about nominees to your committee. The posts available are: Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary. If anybody would like to volunteer or else volunteer somebody else then please let it be known.

HELP !!!!
Does anybody out there have a secondhand sump for sale? I’ve cracked mine (again !) and as it appears that any sump on my car has a life span of less than one year, I don’t want to purchase a new one. I leave you with a handy recipe for this time of year as well as a Christmas Word Search which was kindly put together by Ruth Arnold. Christmas Cake Recipe
Ingredients: 1 cup
brown sugar
1 cup water
1 tspn baking soda
1 cup sugar
2 cups dried fruit
8oz nuts
4 large eggs
1 tspn salt
juice of a lemon
1 bottle whisky
Method
Sample the whisky to check
quality. Take large bowl. Check whisky again. To
be sure whisky is of highest quality, pour one level cup and
drink. Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large
fluffy bowl. add one
teaspoon of sugar and beat. Make sure the whisky is still okay.
Repeat, just in
case. Turn off the mixererer. Break two eggs and add to the bowl
and chuck in
all the dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the dried fruit gets
stuck in the
beatereers, pry it loose with a drewskriver. Sample the whisky to
check for
tonsisticity. Next sift two cups of salt or something, who
cares? (Check the whisky). Now sift the lemon and strain your
nuts. Add one table and spoon of sugar or
whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin 350
degrees. Don't
forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window,
check the
whisky again and go to bed.
