1960 Black 2 door saloon.
Early Days
We brought our Minor on the 31-07-1998 with an MOT and taxed,
from an advert in the local paper only to find that it had been
reregistered so the number 680 XMU now belonged to someone in
Scotland! After arriving home with our new pride and joy we set
about washing & polishing the car. Afterwards we stood
back to admire the shine & started to make plans for the
restoration of our Minor.

The Dreaded MOT!
After doing a few small jobs we decided to put the Minor through
an MOT as it only had two months left to run. Come the MOT,
I drove home with a fail list I thought would end all fail lists
and drove the car straight in the garage & left it there
while we decided what to do.
The Restoration!
About a month later, on my way to work our everyday car was
written off in an accident. What to do now? Without a car, but a
Minor sitting in the garage needing lots of work. The Minor was
trailered down to Deal to a friends workshop for the welding to
be done as I had nowhere to do the welding myself. After the car
was rolled onto it's side the new center crossmember was
replaced. Then the rot in the floorpan and chassis rails was cut
out & new steel welded in. Next came the rear spring
hanger mounts and the boot floor. After all the welding was
completed the car was put back on it's wheels and taken to the
company were I worked at the time.
Getting Things Running
My friend Ken and myself then replaced the brakes &
headlights then gave the Minor a service. I took the Minor back
to the garage where it failed the first time.....and thirty
minutes later I drove home with a fresh MOT! Since then the
battery, fuel pump, voltage regulator, starter motor and dynamo
have been replaced. The wheels and grille were shotblasted and
painted Olde English White, and new tyres fitted all
round. The engine was changed in
October 99 & an unleaded cylinder head fitted. The work
on the Minor is by no means finished.
Show Stopper!
On the 8th August 99 we entered The Rye Classic Car Show with our
Minor and won the 2nd Most Original Car Between 1960-69. Our
Morris Minor is now used every day & is proving very
reliable.
Many Thanks to Martin for allowing us to publish the story of his car and his photos on the EKMM web site!
