Restored ElfBy popular demand- the story of EKMM member Robert Westbrook and his Riley Elf.
For some background to the Riley Elf, which is actually a rare type of Mini see the Wikkipedia entry Mini history- includes Riley Elf
At Xmas time, what could be better than restoring one of "Santas little helpers"

Just a description of how bad the car was from a preliminary look round the car! Elf 1
Bodywork:
This is how the elf was when I first got it 2 years ago. To say the least it was a MESS. It needed the front floors replacing, the inner and outer sills on both sides, the bonnet was rusty in both corners, the back bumper had rusted to the bodywork! It was dented and scraped all over the place, and finally although the front wings and A-panels had been renewed they were covered in surface rust!

Robert- the car looks pretty good to me- you should see the state of my projects!!! Elf boot
That rust below the rear window might be problematic- i.e window out, keep grinding, rust gone, big hole! elf ear dull
Interior:
The interior was just as bad; the carpets were ruined, the seats were red ones that had been re-coulored- they were badly ripped and damaged, the dashboard had delaminated, there was a rats nest in the glove box, The rear parcel shelf was ruined and it was generally dirty and covered in droppings.

We did find a lot more rust later on!!
